Open day and guided tour of Utøya (English)
Beskrivelse
Discover Utøya – The Island That Rose Again Utøya is a small island with great significance and a long history. Today, it stands as a symbol of democratic resilience and serves as a place for engagement, learning, and remembrance, where the stories of 22 July are preserved with openness and respect. We invite you to become part of this story through our guided tours and open days. Open Days and Guided Tours The Utøya Declaration states that Utøya should be an open, accessible, and inclusive place for everyone. Most visits to the island take place through pre-booked group tours, conferences and meetings, educational programmes at the Utøya Learning Centre, camps, or other organised activities. On selected dates throughout the year, we also offer guided tours with individual tickets available to the public. During the tour, we visit the Labour Movement Barn , home to a historical exhibition exploring Utøya's role in the Norwegian labour movement, youth engagement, and democratic participation. We then walk along the scenic Path of Love (Kjærlighetsstien) , where visitors experience the contrasts that define Utøya's dual heritage—both as a place of joy and community, and as the site of the terrorist attack on 22 July 2011. A visit to the Hegnhuset Learning Centre provides insight into the events of 22 July 2011, as well as the island's reconstruction and continued role as a place for learning, remembrance, and democratic engagement. The tour concludes at The Clearing (Lysningen) , the national memorial site located at the northern end of the island. Practical Information Please arrive well in advance of departure.
